Traveling to Heal Your Inner Child

How do you heal through the World?

Fun and Wellness while traveling can get SO hard. While the fun is fun, and travel can't exactly "cure" you, it can help parts of you heal.

I Ran all over the world (think of it as playing tag you're it.) My mental health struggles, my at-home problems, and my own fears seemed to disappear - for a while.

Leave the Bad and savor the Good, was my Motto.

What happened? I took pictures, laughed in hostels and volunteer spaces, and made memories to last for lives. I also sacrificed my mental, physical, and spiritual health in the name of not slowing down.

How can you balance the fun with care while in a hostel/backpacker space? Long-term travel REQUIRES rest!!

I created 3 Golden Rules that I live by.

Turn The World into Art

  1. Your Health is your Greatest Luxury - Mentally and Physically
  2. Play!!
  3. Protect your Peace - in moments of danger (anything can happen anywhere)

🤍Rule Number 1

Your health is your Greatest Luxury

Always prioritize your mental health. You get exhausted while traveling, which is natural, but, it can come at the cost of your mental health. Stress builds, and trips go downhill easier than you might think.

If you are in online counselling sessions, plan for down days during your trips to have therapy sessions. A general rule is to schedule at minimum one counselling session every two weeks.

DO NOT cancel your counselling for a trip if it is more than two weeks long.

VOLUNTEER

A community, while traveling, can save your trip. In my low moments, I found family and fun through volunteering. Worldpackers is the best way to find positions.

Find your family around the world.

Play Dress Up!!

While alone in Scotland, sinking into a depression - in a beautiful place - I turned to volunteering through the Christmas season. What I found was family, friends, and more. The "volunteering" felt more like hanging out. I'm a little shy and introverted, but I healed through this experience.

🤍Rule Number 2.

Play!! Adults forget how to play.

Stress, work, and life all get up to us. If you're traveling and can't forget what's going on back home, ask yourself, "how can I turn this situation into something fun?"

Take the pretty dress and perform (where is respectful.) People love to complain about "influencers" in dresses all the time, but where else are you going to play dress up?

Is Versailles not the perfect place to show up in a (comfortably) dramatic dress? You visit the site for a moment, but the pictures will last a lifetime. Everyone deserves to feel beautiful in a Beautiful place!

Bad situation? Make a game - Protect Your Future Peace.

Snorkeling trip gone wrong? You were playing mermaids, don't worry.

In a potentially dangerous situation? How do you stay calm? Having been in this situation personally, I rephrased it later (within the bounds of counselling) and decided I was playing "undercover spy." Things can happen any and everywhere, so protect yourself mentally however you can.
